Category: Religion festival.
Celebration: 14th of Shaaban, the 8th Islamic month.
Activity: Prayers, fire works, exchange of sweets and visits.

Eid-ul-Fit
Category: Religious festival.
Celebration: End of fasting month, on 1st of Shawaal, the 10th month of Islamic calendar.
Activity: Special prayer aftr sun-rise, exchange of sweets and visits.

Sibi Festival
Category: Traditional - at Sibi in Balochistan
Celebration: Last week in February.
Activity: Sports, handicrafts exhibition, folk music and dances.

Sindh Horse & Cattle Show
Category: Traditional – at Jacobabad in Sindh
Celebration: Last week in February.
Activity: Sports, handicrafts exhibition, folk music and dances.

Jashan-e-Larkana
Category: Traditional – at Larkana in Sindh
Celebration: Last week in February.
Activity: Sports, handicrafts exhibition, folk music and dances.

Basant
Category: Traditional – in Lahore and Qasur. Now enjoyed in other cities also.
Celebration: Mid February (special night long celebration).
Activity: Colorful kite flying, drumming, music, dance, grilled food over night.

Nauroze
Category: Traditional – in Gilgit, Hunza, Skardu and Chitral.
Celebration: 21-23 March.
Activity: Polo, foot-ball, volley-ball and hockey matches; folk music & dances.

Pakistan Day
Category: Independence.
Celebration: 23th of March.
Activity: In Commemoration of the anniversary of Pakistan Resolution passed on March 23, 1940 Military parade is held at provincial capitals and in Ialsmabad.

Mela Charagan (Mela=Festival. Charagan=pl. of Lamps)
Category: Festival.
Celebration: Last week in March -held for one week outside of Shalimar Gardens.
Activity: Fruit, vegetable and food stalls, exhibitions, music, visit to Gardens.

Horse & Cattle Show
Category: Traditional at Dera Ismail Khan.
Celebration: From end of March to first week in April.
Activity: Local games, cattle races, folk music, dances, handicrafts exhibition.
Hashan-e-Shikarpur
Category: Traditional Festival at Shikarpur in Sindh.
Celebration: For one week in April.
Activity: Handicrafts exhibition, sports and cultural activities.

Eid-ul-Azha
Category: Religious festival.
Celebration: 10th of Zilhaj – 12th month of Islamic calendar. All over the country.
Commemorates the great sacrifice offered by Prophet Abraham.
Activity: Prayers after sun set, sacrifice of goats, sheep, cows or camels.
Distribution of meat among poor, friends and relatives.

Joshi or Chilimjusht
Category: Traditional KALASH Festival.
Celebration: 14-15 May.
Activity: Kalash Valleys near Chitrat welcome spring with folk dances, music
and exchange of dishes.

Shandur Polo Festival
Category: Traditional festival at Shandur Pass in Chitral- 3738 m. above sealevel.
Celebration: July 7,8 and 9.
Activity: Polo tournament on the highest polo ground of the world between
Chitral and Gilgit teams. A tent village is set up along Shandur Lake.
Folk music and dances. More competitions.

Utchal
Category: Festival.
Celebration: July 15-16 – Harvest festival celebrated by Kalsh people.
Activity: Folk music, dances, exhibitions and food.

Eid Milad-un Nabi
Category: Religious.
Celebration: 12 Rabi-ul Awwal – 3rd month of Islamic Calendar.
Activity: Birth anniversary of Prophet Hazrat Mohammed (pbuh).
Recitation of Holy Quran, Prayers for peace, decoration of houses,
street and government buildings with colorful flags and lights.
Speeches highlighting life of Prophet Mohammed (pbuh).

Independence day of Pakistan
Category: Independence.
Celebration: August 14.
Activity: Artillery guns boom at daybreak, flag raising, meetings, processions,
rallies, decorations and illustrations all over the country.
Food stalls, handicraft exhibitions.

Defense of Pakistan Day
Category: Defense.
Celebration: 6 September. All over the country.
Activity: Parades and exhibitions of military equipment.
Visit to war memorials.


Air Force Day
Category: Air Force of Pakistan.

Activity: Display of latest aircraft of Pakistan Air Force.

Phool

Celebration: 20-25 September held in Kalash Valleys near Chitral.
Activity: Reaping grapes and walnuts, dancing and singing.

Loke Mela (Loke=folk Mela=Festival)

Celebration: 1st week in October – for one week held in Islamabad.
Activity: Folk music, songs –concerts, folk dances, exhibition and sale of handicraft, craftsmen at work; from all over the country.

Chowmass
Category: Traditional.
Celebration: 18-21 October. Held in Kalash Valleys.
Activity: They welcome winter with first snow-fall and activities held indoor.

Karakoram Car Rallay
Category: Traditional. At 4733 meters above sea-level. Part of International Year of Mountains Celebrations.
Celebration: Check with “SAF-KK Car Rally” for schedule.
Activity: Car rally all along with Karakoram highway.
Awards, Prizes and Certificates are given.

Birthday of Allama Muhammad Iqbal
Category: National Poet.
Celebration: 9 November
