After families migrated from Jalandhar (India) to Lahore (Pakistan) some hoping against hopes, kept waiting for their missing loved ones and had not been able to keep in contact with disintegrated families; past-neighbors; past-community and brotherhoods (bradaries; I think this word comes from Persian word “bradar” in English brother); some relocated in search of livelihood. Thus the horrible circumstances they had gone through and the worries of their parents; their young ones who did not have deep imprints of relatives or inter-relationships; forgot altogether who was who. Had we remained in contact we would know where they are relocated. We know of only few who are seen in some marriage parties or a death is known.
Not to speak of relatives, anybody would hardly remember their teachers, classmates; the shopkeepers and the localities where their forefathers lived a long.
Therefore, I have put on the Internet whatever memories I could gather so that if, by chance, someone wants to know about my family, my writing may bring something up. My information can be accessed from sheikhsarwar or sheikh sarwar- or sheikhmsarwar. There are some other items you may find of interest; and my memories of 1947; Basti Danishmandan, Jalandhar.
I remember we used to have one-single-paper-sheet describing our religion tree and another, a tree of our descendants. Like someone told me "we" are converts; first one was baba Tara Singh” to embrace Islam? Maybe, maybe-not! Hence, to keep this IMPORTANT INFORMATION- and our IDENTITIES, please, please try to put in writing and if possible, if advisable, update it, put on the Internet, pass on hand in hand to the next generations. Those who migrated to other countries for refuge, asylum, jobs, studies and settled their, must have realized that their contacts with those left behind have been fading out and their children show no interest in knowing from where we came from and who was who.
