Children Amusement in 1940's-Jalandhar-Basti Danishmandan

Children were amused:

Besides, periodical festivals, and annual events of all sects of life, there were other sources of amusement for children: Jugglers, Snake-charmers and monkey-play performers; some with just monkeys while other with monkey and a goat, would come stop couple of places in the street, beat small drummers ("dugduggies" made of paper and string with small stone or rice glued at its end, were spinned to make noise and attract children); it was safe for children to come out, enjoy these live performances close to their houses. At end of show, performers were given some money or flour or meal. Those performers used to live close-by and were known to the community.
