I have concluded from our dealings with each other in daily life that we take Commitment very lightly or even ignore it. If I am not wrong this is another king of Promise/Wa'da.
Panjab Sufi Poet Baba Bhullay Shah expressed obligation of fulfilling a promise in his following words:
Wa'da karna te kar chhad dena, yaad rakh ai kam insaan da na'in
Bhulay Shah na aadmi samj uhnu jera aadmi pura zaban da na'in
(meaning something like this: This is not becoming of a human to promise and not to fulfill it; rather such a person does not deserve to be called a human being)
Commitment that we make must be fulfilled. This is what I have observed being fulfilled and have also experienced difficulties in not fulfilling it.
Commitment is conveyed by one or all of the following actions:
- in spoken words
- by nodding which gives positive indication
- just saying, don’t worry, I will see to it
- saying; why you worry, I am here
- yes, will do it Insha Allah (God willing)
Here, I must remind Muslim brothers of the instruction I have heard of:“Ma t’qulu, ma la taf-olun”(why you say that, what you cannot or will not do)
Please, do not:linger on unnecessarily.
- tell the person if you need more time to accomplish this
- tell him, frankly, as soon as possible, that you tried but were not successful and he should ask someone for help.
I am sure he is worried (as I am in such circumstances) and his time is as precious as our.
Treat and Behave others as we want ourselves to be behaved.
