Education is not only that which we get at school. Education is given at home from very childhood; in as much as; how to greet, meet, behave, and talk respectfully. But when children expose to the outer world, They pick up “frank, friendly” language used in street talk and gatherings and the person speaks in that tone which perhaps he would not like to hear for himself from others. We must educate our children and ourselves. It will bring us a good name. Advise children to never use abusive language and as commonly spoken words “stupid” "dumb", even among friends. This reflects a crude impression of personality.
These following happenings have prompted me to write these few lines:
a) Our father was killed during India partition and we were left “orphan”
I had an uncle “Fazal” who knew how to re-adjust displaced bones and joints. One morning a young child from our relatives came and asked a resident of our street: “where those two “yateem brothers” orphan brothers; Sarwar, Anwar, live. Then he knocked at our door and without any greetings, asked “where Fazal (not uncle Fazal, etc) lives who corrects the broken bones.” He was directed to his house and God knows how he behaved there!
b) Our home phone rang and I pick up saying “hello” – the calling person started with abusive language without knowing who answered the phone. (that call was for my son from his friend). Both of them are to be blamed. We taught our children best we could, but that son became used to the “friendly” street style language. My son or his friend were not ashamed and did not apologize.
Get your children greet elders coming into your house and have them sit while you are in the company of elders. They will learn how to greet and sit respectfully. Then let them play with children; if accompanying them or let them go. Try to have your children come by while seeing off your guests. This should be a way to introduce them to social relationship. Tell children to greet and respect elders in the neighbor and their teachers. Make them friendly and talk to you about school-home work and tests etc.
